By Julie Sanders, Wangaratta VIC Australia:
It was a great night but Wangaratta is actually in Victoria not nsw!! Was the 1st time I saw the band and have loved them since!!

By Nada Lupo, Melbourne, Victoria Australia:
I was only 11 years old and there was a bus traveling to Wangaratta for the ones who lived out of town. It was a fantastic concert and I made a banner just for the concert. I still have it to this day.

    By Chris, Wagga:
Oh boy I remember that night well. I remember one of the local young Wangaratta Italian woild-be heros picking Angus Young to a fight down at the Olympic Cafe in Faithful St after the concert later on that night. He got the crap beaten out of him! Lol

    By Claudio Mancini, Boronia Victoria:
I remember that concert very well, AC/DC were emerging as a popular band they were very lively group, Bon Scott was a real showman, the music was so loud my ears whistled for about 3 days...
I believe after the show there was some drunken behaviour and I'm sure Bon Scott got locked up in the Wang police station for the night...

By Michael Croucher, Melbourne (formerly of Myrtleford):
Today (Wednesday 19/2/20) is 40 years since Bon Scott died. But it was just over 44 years ago that Bon and the boys strutted their stuff at Wangaratta. I was there, squeezed in near the stage (at only just 12 - I thought I was 11, until I found this site). I was mesmerised by Bon's presence in particular, and by his comical lift of an eyebrow and his cheeky grin. He was a great showman. He could sing a bit too.
Like Nada (whose post is above, and with whom I went to primary school - Hi, Nada), I travelled to Wang by bus from Myrtleford, with my older brother Nick and older sister Sue. Different times. It would be unheard of today.
I remember a bikie wandering around outside the Town Hall at some point, looking a little under the weather. He had the words "I like fish & chips" written on his forehead, and a neatly drawn picture of a bag of chips underneath. Maybe it had been penned there by his mates while he was in a drunken stupor. As a 12-year-old boy, however, I preferred to think of it as a real tattoo. A man ahead of his time.
But the most memorable thing of all occurred when we were milling around outside after the show. Murray Leahy (also from Myrtleford, who would have been about 15 at the time), was walking along the footpath, when a car came reversing down the side of the venue at a rate of knots. The car clipped Murray, hurting his knee (I think). Instead of stopping, however, the car just sped away. An ambulance was called. I can still see Murray sitting up in the back of the ambulance. By that stage, the rumour had got around that those in the car were the band. Murray was chuffed. Thereafter, he could always say, proudly and truthfully, that he had been run over by AC/DC! (We were all told later that it was just a misunderstanding, and that those in the car had no idea that anyone had been struck or hurt.)
Sadly, only a few years later, Murray (who was a promising footballer) was very seriously injured in a car accident, and ever since has been confined to a wheelchair with quadraplaegia and brain injury and has had to receive permanent care.
Anyway, that was the day the emerging AC/DC came to Wangaratta. Who would've thought they'd end up one of the most successful rock bands in the world - and without Bon Scott? Well done them.

By Susy Sanford nee DeGrazia, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia:
Wow! Yes, I was there that night and even though I was only 12 years old, the concert has remained vividly in my mind ever since. I was lucky enough to go backstage and meet the band. I remember seeing Angus sitting on a stool, but my attention was on Bon who signed my autograph book and followed up with a kiss. I still have his autograph and anytime I hear an AC/DC song I’m transported back to that amazing night.
