After months of speculation, AC/DC will in fact have a street named after them in Melbourne. This is the official Press Release dated Sept. 26th:
AC/DC STREET NAME UNVEILED IN MELBOURNE ITS OFFICIAL!
Next Friday 1st October 2004, Melbourne will be the first city in Australia to honour a rock n roll band by having a street named after them. On that day a laneway called Corporation Lane (off Flinders Lane) will be renamed ACDC Lane after much campaigning by fans of the band.
This is a huge coup for AC/DC fans, and to commemorate the changeover, Australian bands The Casanovas, Dallas Crane and Osterberg will be saluting the men who told us it s a long way to the top if you wanna rock 'n' roll!
Make sure you come to Cherry Bar where the official celebrations will be taking place in the evening. See The Casanovas (who have just come back from Japan), Dallas Crane (before they scoop some awards at the ARIAs on the 17th October) and witness Melbourne's newest three-piece Osterberg as they play us songs from their debut EP.
Cherry Bar (located on AC/DC lane) will be open from 2.30pm on the day so come down and share a beer with us and experience some high voltage rock bands later that evening.
The Melbourne City Council unanimously voted to rename the lane in August after four months of campaigning by AC/DC fans. There is already a street named Calle de AC/DC on the outskirts of Madrid, there's Joey Ramone place in the Bowery, New York and The Darkness even have a street named after them in the UK it seemed inevitable that a band with such global success as AC/DC would have a street named after them in the city they performed "It's A Long Way To The Top" on a flatbed truck travelling down Swanston Street in 1976.
We also have a 15 vinyl AC/DC boxed set to giveaway of all the band's reissues. This is a ripper little prize thanks to our friends at Alberts and FMG. So all you need to do is buy a ticket to the gig and you receive a raffle ticket to enter the draw automatically. The prize is announced on the night!
Tickets can be pre-purchased from the bar and are VERY LIMITED!!!!!!
Cherry Bar located on AC/DC lane behind 103 Flinders Lane CBD.
