AC/DC's first drummer Colin Burgess dies at 77

December 16, 2023

Colin Burgess, who was AC/DC's first drummer, died today aged 77. Colin had been a member of the highly successful Australian band The Masters Apprentices from 1968 until their split in 1972, was voted best Australian drummer in 1970 and 1971 in Go Set magazine and was an ARIA Hall of Fame inductee. Malcolm Young recruited him in AC/DC in December 1973, and he was behind the drum kit for their first concerts until he was sacked in late January 1974. He also played drums on AC/DC's first single "Can I Sit Next To You Girl / Rockin' In The Parlour." Colin briefly re-joined the band to fill in for Phil Rudd in September 1975 for a Western Australian tour. RIP Colin.
