Warner Home Video has announced today the release of the 1980 movie "Let There Be Rock" on DVD & BluRay on June 7th. This is the first official release of the movie on DVD, featuring a concert filmed at the Pavillion de Paris on December 9th, 1979, with interview & off-stage sequences of the band filmed in France during December-January 1980.
The movie will be available in 3 formats - a single DVD with the complete movie (concert & interviews), an 'edited' version of the movie with the concert footage only, and a "collectors" DVD/BluRay combo in a tin-can with some 'extras' (32-page booklet, guitar pick, photos from the film, a LTBR card...) Those expecting outtakes from the movie will be disappointed - the only bonuses included will be a few short documentaries featuring musicians & journos commenting on the band... Although the vast majority of the outtakes were discarded decades ago I can confirm that some of them have in fact survived.
The soundtrack is presented in DTS-HD Master Audio sound (presumably 5.1), and was engineered by Eddie Kramer. The multi-track tapes from the concert were destroyed in the 90's and a 2-track mixdown was used for the 5.1 mix.
"Let There Be Rock" is priced at $44.98 for the BluRay/DVD combo, $39.98 for the 'complete' DVD, and $21.95 for the concert-only DVD.
