By Elizabeth Schulte, Albuquerque, New Mexico:
It was a spontaneous, crazy idea in the middle of my last spring semester at UNM, in Albuquerque. I had to get off work, miss an exam, it really jacked up my week, but my cool older cousin and I were TICKED that we were gonna miss this tour because stupid Albuquerque police detained the band back in 1991: they never played my home town again. As a die-hard fan from age 13 because AC/DC is #1 Rock n Roll band EVER, I was crushed! So was my cool older cousin. Suddenly he said let's go! Lets go see 'em in DALLAS! We busted ass getting ready for two days, my boss said aren't you a little old for this? I was 26. I said hell no! Never! And all night the night before, we road tripped it to Dallas! My cool cousin, three of his friends, and me (only chick). We arrived at the stadium around 10 a.m., groggy and hung over. We saw the tour bus arrive! And that show....oh man!. I'd seen them once before, on their Blow Up Your Video tour when I was 16, ten years prior, but they had upped their game! It was SO loud I couldn't hear myself scream. And I was screaming my head off! Because I was so close I could almost touch them! The stage had these ramps on the sides that almost met up with these walkway type extensions in the seats, so if you had your cool cousin's buddy holding onto the back of the waist of your jeans, and you leaned way out over the bars, you could almost, ALMOST touch Angus when he ran up to the end of the stage ramp. He was so close I think he gave me a startled, "Whoa, crazy bitch!" look when he was what seemed like six inches from my outstretched, crazed fan fingertips! I was screaming my head off! Angus is God, AC/DC is the only band that's ever mattered, I'm STILL in tears that my Malcolm died in November, and I'll never, ever forget how hard they rocked that night. I've seen tons of shows - Metallica, Iron Maiden, Aerosmith, SRV, Santana, Joe Walsh, Eric Clapton, Prince, White Zombie, Alice Cooper - no one, ever, has EVER held a candle to a live AC/DC show. (sorry, Prince, you WERE amazing). I'm a LOT older (that was twenty years ago!) But I still remember everything about it: the booming cannons, Angus' little strip tease, and blinding white l'il bum! Malcolm leading it all from a little bit behind his brother, but you knew who was in charge :), Brian shredding vocals as loud as the guitars, sexy Cliff never looking up, but keeping that super thump coming through your chest, and Phil Rudd, the original drummer, BACK in the saddle, and beating the skins so hard my eardrums HURT! I loved that show, I love being the biggest AC/DC fan this side of the pond, and I love Angus, Malcolm, Bon, and Brian, Cliff, Phil, and Simon and Chris. You are THE hardest rock 'n roll bad-asses EVER, the emperors of hard rock. Thank you for rocking my world! Love, Elizabeth
