Rare Albums

A detail listing of the rarest commercially released AC/DC albums.
  • 12 OF THE BEST
  • Australia
  • Albert/EMI APLP.029
  • Never released, sleeve only, printed in 1978
  • Side 1: It's A Long Way To The Top, High Voltage, Problem Child, T.N.T., Whole Lotta Rosie, Let There Be Rock.
  • Side 2: Jailbreak, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, The Jack, Dog Eat Dog, She's Got Balls, Baby Please Don't Go.
  • The ultimate rarity in any AC/DC collection. This album was in preparation by Alberts in 1978 but was never released. No record or test-pressing was actually ever manufactured, but a very small quantity of sleeves were printed. Certainly the rarest AC/DC item ever, due to the small print run and the fact that all copies remained in the Albert/EMI vaults, its inestimable value is hard to determine, but is without a doubt in excess of $1,000. Only a handful of collectors are known to posses this gem.
  • IF YOU WANT BLOOD
  • Holland (Splattered vinyl)
  • Atlantic/WEA ATL 50 532
  • Released 1978.
  • Track listing same as regular albums.
  • Ultra rare splattered vinyl released only in Holland, now worth approximately $400 or more.
  • DOUBLE DYNAMITE - 2 ORIGINALS OF...
  • South Africa
  • Atlantic/WEA Ltd. ATD 11819
  • Released 1979, reissued 1981.
  • Track listing same as regular albums.
  • Released only in South-Africa, this coupling of "High Voltage" and "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" originally came out in 1979 with the title "Double Dynamite 2 Originals". It was reissued in 1981 with a slightly different sleeve with the title "2 Originals Of...". It also exists with 2 different labels, a red & black one and an orange label. The gatefold sleeve reproduces the cartoon cover of "High Voltage" and "Dirty Deeds" with the same back cover as the regular releases, just like two albums attached together. A very sought-after item, it is worth approximately $150 to $200.
  • LET THERE BE ROCK
  • South Africa
  • Atlantic/WEA Ltd. ATC 9671
  • Released 1980
  • Track listing same as US album.
  • Due to a mistake in the color processing (the Cyan and Magenta channels of the color separation were reversed), the cover of "Let There Be Rock" was issued in South Africa with completely different colors, with a green logo and purple background. Extremely rare, this in fact is the second pressing of this album in South Africa, while the original release was issued with the correct colors. An AC/DC collectors favorite, its value ranges from $150 to $200.
  • HIGHWAY TO HELL
  • East Germany
  • Atlantic/Amiga 8 55 838
  • Released 1981.
  • Track listing same as regular album.
  • The only official release to come out of the original East Germany, the album was released in 1981 and obviously the communist state censored the original "devilish" cover to replace it with a much simpler and boring one. The original release comes with a purple label and the second 1986 pressing with a light blue label. Copies valued at over $50.
  • BACK IN BLACK
  • Korea (Pirate)
  • Stereophonic SH 867
  • Released 1980-82?
  • Track listing same as regular album.
  • One of the very first counterfeited AC/DC release. All the 80's albums were counterfeited in Korea with color-tinted covers and very cheap pressing. The sleeve of this one was modified from the original to include the pictures usually featured in the inner sleeve, and the title grossly corrected by hand in white. Many different versions of each album exist, with at least 8 different ones of "Back In Black," this one being one of the rarest. Each of these pirate releases now very hard to find, is worth approximately $50 in excellent condition, which is rare.
  • BACK IN BLACK
  • Bolivia
  • WEA/Discolandia WL-1126
  • Released Mid-late 80's
  • Track listing same as regular album.
  • This Lp is one of two Bolivian pressings known to exist. It was issued after the release of the "Back In Black" CD in the US in 85 and the sleeve is the exact reproduction of the CD cover. For unknown reasons most of the tracks on this Lp have been edited (with endings fading) and the label credits the album as "Black In Black", produced by "John Mutt Lance"! Quite hard to find these days, it is worth approximately $40.
  • ROCK AND ROLL AIN'T NOISE POLLUTION
  • Korea
  • Atlantic/Oasis Records OLW-151
  • Released July 30, 1981
  • Side 1: Love At First Feel, There's Gonna Be Some Rockin', Let Me Put My Love Into You, Rocker, Ain't No Fun (Waiting Round To Be A Millionaire)
  • Side 2: Rock And Roll Ain't Noise Pollution, Given The Dog A Bone, Big Balls, Shake A Leg, Ride On.
  • Korea is known to issue albums with modified track listings, censoring many "explicit" songs and sometimes replacing them with tracks from other albums, although the Ministry Of Culture can easily fail to "filter' certain tracks (i.e. "Big Balls"!?). No AC/DC album would have probably been released there would the Ministry of Culture understood the double meaning of many of the band's songs... In a bizarre move by either the Korean officials or Atlantic, the albums "Back In Black" and "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" were compiled together without some of the "sensitive" tracks to form a unique Lp titled "Rock And Roll Ain't Noise Pollution", with the cover of the later. It comes with a lyrics sheet like the Japanese albums and is valued at approximately $100. It was subsequently reissued with a slightly darker glossy cover (the original was printed on "corrugated" type paper) and the exact matrix & catalogue numbers.
  • FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK
  • Spain
  • Atlantic/HispaVox S.90.471
  • Released November 1981
  • Track listing same as regular album.
  • Released by Atlantic's original distributor in Spain, HispaVox, this original edition of "For Those About To Rock" with reversed colors is the only version of the album with a different sleeve. Some rarer copies also include an inner sleeve with the band's discography & logo. The album was subsequently re-released by WEA Ariola Spain in 1983 with the right colors. The original is worth approximately $50, more with the inner sleeve.
  • BLOW UP YOUR VIDEO
  • Venezuela
  • Atlantic/Sonografi 25003
  • Released 1988
  • Track listing same as regular album.
  • This Venezuelan Lp is the only worldwide version of "Blow Up Your Video" with a different sleeve.  Not commonly found, it is valued at $50 to $75.
  • THE RAZORS EDGE
  • Ecuador
  • Atlantic-Atco/Fediscos 73089
  • Released 1991
  • Track listing same as regular album.
  • The only worldwide version of "The Razors Edge" with a sleeve variation, and different back sleeve. Hard to find, it is valued at over $50.

Note: These albums are NOT for sale here. The values indicated are purely indicative and can vary widely from one seller to another. They are based on rarity of item, and general selling price taken from different sources. Some of these can be found in used-vinyl record stores worldwide, except for the "12 Of The Best"...
